TB041 Rev1 Importing DXF files in MasterCAM
Overview
This document describes some difficulties that may be encountered when using DXF files with MasterCAM
The Version matters
MasterCAM will load DXF files that conform to the R12 format If AutoCAD R14 is being used to draw the
geometry be sure to save the file in R12 format
Colors and Scaling
When a DXF file is loaded into MasterCAM it may be that nothing is visible on the screen One reason for this
is that the original drawing is in the same color as the background of the screen If this is the case choose
[S]creen [E]ndpoints This will draw all the points in white The second problem that may be encountered is
that the drawing is scaled so large or so small that it cannot be seen Pressing ALT+F1
will fit the drawing to
the screen
Directories
When loading a DXF file the default directory that MasterCAM looks for these programs is in C \NC\DXF
Unless a directory has been created and/or has DXF files in it the directory probably doesn't exist and
certainly does not contain any DXF files to load Most of the time the DXF file will be imported from a floppy
in which case the pathname of that file example a \mydxf dxf can be specified When the file is saved it will
be converted to a MasterCAM geometry * ge3 file and placed in the C \NC\GE3 directory If a file is being
converted to DXF and then saved the default path is C \NC\DXF If the directory does not exist and the files
need to be placed there the directory will need to be created
